The employer must make clear the nature of the work/placement offered and specify any necessary skills required, the proposed salary and other terms. If possible , the employer should also state the number and distribution of hours to be worked and the date that the employment will end and begin.
It is the responsibility of the employer to let all candidates know the result of an interview process as soon as possible.
It is the duty of the employer to meet all statutory legal requirements with regard to students and graduates employed via Graduate Talent West and partner institutions. In particular the employer is reminded of the following:
The employer shall satisfy themselves as to the suitability of any employees and shall be responsible for taking up any references and checking of qualifications provided by the employee before engaging the student.
If an employer finds that a student recruited via Graduate Talent West does not fulfil reasonable expectations, bearing in mind the job specification notified, Graduate Talent West will re-advertise the vacancy if requested by the employer.
Notifying vacancies to Graduate Talent West is free of charge*.
Graduate Talent West is a distribution site. Vacancies will be considered by each participating institution and they reserve the right not to advertise vacancies considered unsuitable for students, and to refuse to advertise further vacancies from any company, which breaches this code.
*We also welcome opportunities from recruitment agencies; your vacancies may be posted to Graduate Talent West free of charge, however institutional charges may still apply.
UWE Bristol - No charge until further notice
Bath Spa University - No charge until further notice
University of Gloucestershire - No acceptance of vacancies from Recruitment Agencies until further notice.
Adverts are accepted subject to our usual terms and conditions, but in addition we require you to name your client, ideally in the advertisement, but at the very least to Graduate Talent West.
When recruiting current students the employer should be aware of the student's study obligations and as a guide should not ask full time students to work in excess of 15 hours per week, except during vacations or other periods when a student does not have the usual pressure of study.
For Placements (attached to a course of study, usually 6 months or more but can include shorter work based learning modules) National Minimum Wage (NMW) legislation states that any placement undertaken as part of a course of study is exempt from NMW. However, we recommend that you select a competitive salary to ensure you attract high calibre candidates.
We suggest you take into account their basic subsistence level requirements and compensate the placement student appropriately. The majority of sandwich placements are paid and will attract a salary of between £13,000 and £16,000 per annum.
